What remains for nations when their treasures of knowledge are stolen? What trace do manuscripts leave on empty shelves? Can the whiteness of paper carry a distress message that motivates future generations to reclaim the ink that was stolen from them? How many scars has the absence of the ancient heritage left on the brow of the present!
(The House of Life) is a novel that deals with one of the greatest losses in the history of Morocco: the theft of the Zaydani Library in the seventeenth century, amidst a bloody feud between the heirs of the Sultan over thrones that would vanish, in the process of which lasting knowledge was lost. Although it is tied to memory and history, it does not disappear within them, but rather extends a bridge from them to the present and then to the future, extending with it the memory of pain, and its impact extends to us all through the effect that art leaves on our tranquility.
A novel that skillfully combines the real and the imaginary, the historical and the fantastic!
From this combination, a painful vision is born, crying over the loss of the legacy, and arrows are aimed at our chests, as we abandoned our treasure of knowledge, and continued to chase a treasure of gold, but we did not obtain anything but glitter, and we lost both treasures together.
