A novel by the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky, generally considered the culmination of his works. Dostoevsky spent nearly two years writing The Brothers Karamazov, which was published in chapters in The Russian Messenger magazine and completed in November 1880. Dostoevsky intended it to be the first part of an epic titled The Life Story of a Great Sinner, but he passed away less than four months after the publication of The Brothers Karamazov. In the last month of January 1881, just a few weeks after the last chapters of the novel were published in The Russian Messenger magazine
