Shams Tabrizi, a Sufi mystic and poet, wrote most of his poetry in Persian, and some in Turkish and Arabic. He was a Sufi Muslim of the Shafi'i school of thought, and hailed from the city of Tabriz. He is known as the spiritual mentor of Jalal ad-Din Rumi, and his name was immortalized through "Divan-e Shams-e Tabrizi," in which he explored the theme of divine love. His unique personality sparked controversy, with some historians even doubting his existence and considering him a legendary figure. He secluded himself with his disciple Jalal ad-Din Rumi for forty days in the city of Konya to write "The Forty Rules of Love," a text later summarized by the Turkish author Elif Shafak in her famous novel. This work is considered a rare and lost masterpiece through which Tabrizi completed his vision of divine love and spiritual dialogue.
