xتتفرّد دار هاشيت أنطوان، تحت دمغة نوفل، بنشر أعمال ميخائيل نعيمه، وهو أحد أبرز الأدباء العرب المعاصرين وأدباء المهجر اللبنانيين. تتميّز كتاباته بمحاولات تنقية الأدب العربي من الزخارف والكلام الزائد، والاقتراب من تصوير واقع الأشياء والأحداث. وقد انطبع أسلوبه بالبساطة والوضوح والصراحة، وببعده عن المبالغة، لا سيّما في الوصف أو السرد أو التصوير، كما تبدو ألفاظه أقرب إلى اللّهجة العاميّة أحيانًا، ما يزيد رغبة القرّاء، من كلّ الأعمار، في مطالعة كتبه. يبلغ الغربال في طبعته هذه، التسعين من عمره. ولكن السنين، على عكس ما تفعله السنون، لم تزده إلّا شبابًا. فهو منذ صدوره الأوّل سنة 1923، ما يزال حتّى اليوم، بين مؤلّفات نعيمه الثلاثة والثلاثين، من أوسعها انتشارًا وأكثرها رواجًا.
وتعليل ذلك، على الأرجح، هو أنّ هذا الكتاب في النقد الأدبيّ والنظريّة النقديّة، لم يكن يوم صدوره مجرّد كتاب فقط، بل كان أيضًا حدثًا. ذلك لأنّه كان المفصل الحاسم في أدب النهضة العربيّة منذ مطلع القرن التاسع عشر، بين نهجين أو عهدين اثنين متقاطعين: نهج النيوكلاسيكيّين الطاغي، الذين كانوا يباشرون حاضرهم وحاضر أمّتهم الأدبيّ، شعرًا أو نثرًا، عن طريق الرجوع إلى الماضي، فيجيء إنتاجهم بفعل التقليد الخالص أدبَ شكل بلا مضمون، أو جسدٍ بلا روح، ونهج آخر هو نهج الحداثيّين الذين أخذ نعيمه على عاتقه في غرباله بعثهم، بحيث يكونون طليعة أجيال لا تخرج من أسر ماضيها فقط بل تعمل على جعل حاضرها هي، ماضيًا أبدًا لحاضر جديد.
كان هذا الكتاب كما لا يزال دستور حداثة أدبيّة، وشعريّة على الأخصّ. إنّه ليمكن القول إنّ ما من ناشر أو شاعر عربيّ ذي شأن، إلّا وفي ركن ما من مجمّع مكوّناته الثقافيّة شيء من الغربال.
