Nizar Qabbani prolifically wrote from what the kingdom of poetry and language bestowed upon him and us. He remained faithful to himself with everything he had written, and to himself only, as he sought to be the free, accomplished, productive poet in more than one field. On the 100th anniversary of his birth, we honor his memory by issuing three collections of his Poetry, selected by topic.
We recall in this collection presented by the Lebanese poet Henry Zgheib the cities that Nizar had lived in, and the ones that carved a space in his soul. The cities he loved and left him feeling hurt, the cities he gave his life to for the sake of its love, and the ones that had become his empire for which he only belonged to, as he had never pledged his loyalty but to the Arabism that exudes from the soil of its cities.
