تتفرّد دار هاشيت أنطوان، تحت دمغة نوفل، بنشر أعمال ميخائيل نعيمه، وهو أحد أبرز الأدباء العرب المعاصرين وأدباء المهجر اللبنانيين. تتميّز كتاباته بمحاولات تنقية الأدب العربي من الزخارف والكلام الزائد، والاقتراب من تصوير واقع الأشياء والأحداث. وقد انطبع أسلوبه بالبساطة والوضوح والصراحة، وببعده عن المبالغة، لا سيّما في الوصف أو السرد أو التصوير، كما تبدو ألفاظه أقرب إلى اللّهجة العاميّة أحيانًا، ما يزيد رغبة القرّاء، من كلّ الأعمار، في مطالعة كتبه. "دخلتُ الحانوت، فلاح لي في مؤخّره رجلٌ متوسّط العمر جالسٌ إلى مائدة صغيرة وفي إحدى يدَيه مقصٌّ وفي الأخرى قطعةٌ من النسيج، وأمامَه خشبةٌ صغيرة فيها ثقوب متفاوتة الحجم وقد انحنى فوقها وراح يقيس النسيج عليها. حيّيتُه فَردَّ عليَّ التحيّـة من غير أن يرفع بصره إليّ. وعندما ذكرتُ له حاجتي أجابني ببرودة متناهية، وهو مُـكبّ على ما بين يديه: هل وقتك من ذهب؟"
في هذه المجموعة من الأقاصيص مثلما في «كان ما كان» وفي «أكابر»، يعرض المؤلّف ألوانًا من الحياة التي يحياها الناس في كلّ يوم. ويجسّدُها بقلَمٍ يعرف مكامن الضعف والقوّة في النفس البشريّة ويجيد تصويرها، فيثير اهتمام القارئ بها ويحمله إلى أغوارٍ في الحياة عميقةٍ، إذ هو يُمتعه بساعاتٍ من المطالعة، قَلَّما تُتاح له إلّا مع أرباب الإبداع وأُمَراء البيان.
