Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
The enemy of Allah, Iblis, knew that the heart is the center upon which everything depends. So, he strived to fill it with various whispers and desires to divert it from the straight path. He surrounded it with sources of misguidance and set up traps and snares for it. There is no escape from his cunning except by seeking Allah's help, adhering to the means of His pleasure, and acquiring the humility of servitude, which is the best weapon a person can possess to gain Allah's protection.
He said to Satan:
"Indeed, you will have no authority over My servants" (15:42)
And when Allah, by His grace, granted me knowledge of the diseases of hearts and their cure, and the whisperings of Satan within them, which affect them and corrupt human actions, I decided to record this information in this book.
