Our endeavor to compile an Arabic philosophical dictionary stems from an important question: How can we, as Arabs, think about philosophy, its figures, concepts, books, and problems, in order to give this dictionary a distinct character from those dictionaries that have been translated into Arabic?
The publication of the Fujairah Philosophical Dictionary fills a gap in dictionaries of a translated nature, including compiled dictionaries that often rely on Western lexical references. Furthermore, the dictionary aspires to break free from the Eurocentrism that has dominated and continues to dominate many forms of consciousness, including philosophical consciousness.
The Fujairah Philosophical Dictionary is a continuation of the Arab lexicographical activity that produced Al-Jurjani’s Dictionary and Abu Al-Baqa Al-Kafawi’s Dictionary of Generalities, without diminishing the efforts of contemporary Arab philosophers in this field.
