How to save a life

Keri Smith will save lives, and so will her best friend Tim Palmer. After years of working tirelessly to get into medical school, they are preparing for their entrance exams. But as the new millennium dawns, a classmate has a cardiac arrest, changing everything. For nearly eighteen minutes, rising football star Joel Greenaway dies. For nearly eighteen minutes, Keri performs CPR on her old flame. And for nearly eighteen minutes, Tim is too traumatized to help. Although they don't realize it yet, those eighteen minutes will change the next eighteen years of their lives. Because, as it turns out, saving a life doesn't always guarantee a happy ending. With his football career cut short, Joel lashes out and breaks Keri's heart by cruelly ending their budding relationship, derailing her future. Meanwhile, Tim struggles to reconcile his dream of becoming a doctor with the reality of his failure to act. As they each struggle to move past the events of that fateful New Year's Eve, their lives can't seem to stop colliding year after year. Trapped by their shared history and her big heart, Kerry soon finds herself pulling the pieces together between the two broken men. But when Kerry is the one who needs saving, will anyone be there to support her?
