It's brilliant. I can't remember the last time I read a book that was both more engaging, informative, and entertaining. Bill Bryson. "How Bad Are Bananas?" was groundbreaking when it was first published in 2009, when most of us were hearing the phrase "carbon footprint" for the first time. Mike Berners-Lee set out to tell us what mattered (flights, heating, swimming pools) and what didn't make much of a difference (bananas, packaged naturally, are fine!). This new edition updates all the numbers (from data centers to hosting the World Cup) and introduces many areas that have become a regular part of modern life—Twitter, cloud computing, Bitcoin, electric bicycles and cars, and even space tourism. Berners-Lee takes a thoughtful look at each area and gives us the numbers needed to manage and reduce our carbon footprint, as well as put pressure on our companies, businesses, and government. His findings, presented in a clear and entertaining style, are often surprising. And they are essential if we are to tackle climate change.
