The Sheikh of Islam, the unique scholar of our time, the ocean of knowledge, Taqi al-Din Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him), was asked about two men who discussed the issue of affirming the attributes and being certain of affirming the transcendence of the Throne. One of them said, "It is not obligatory for anyone to know this or research it; Rather, it is disliked for him, as Imam Malik said to the questioner: "I see you as nothing but an evil man." Rather, he must know and believe that God Almighty is One in His kingdom and that He is the Lord, Creator, and Owner of all things. Indeed, whoever speaks of any of this is an anthropomorphist and a sectarian. Is the one who says this correct or mistaken? If he is mistaken, then what is the evidence that people must believe in the affirmation of the attributes and transcendence over the Throne—which is the highest of all created things—and recognize it? And what is the meaning of anthropomorphism and tautology? Give us your fatwa and explain the matter in a comprehensive manner that removes any doubts about this.
