Tafsir al-Jalalayn, size 17 x 24 cm

Tafsir al-Jalalayn is a concise commentary on the Quran, authored by Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli and completed by Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti. Introduction to the Commentary: The first part was written by Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli, beginning with the interpretation of Surah al-Kahf and continuing to Surah al-Nas, in addition to Surah al-Fatihah. Al-Mahalli died in 864 AH before completing the rest of the commentary. Al-Suyuti completed it after his death, starting with the interpretation of Surah al-Baqarah and continuing to the end of Surah al-Isra, hence its name, "Tafsir al-Jalalayn" (The Commentary of the Two Jalals). Al-Suyuti began completing the commentary at the beginning of Ramadan in 870 AH and finished it on the tenth of Shawwal of the same year. Al-Mahalli's commentary was characterized by extreme brevity, and al-Suyuti followed this approach, stating in his introduction that he preferred "concise expression, avoiding lengthy discussions of undesirable opinions and grammatical analyses that belong in classical Arabic texts." The author of Kashf al-Zunun even quoted some Yemeni scholars as saying, "I counted the letters of the Qur'an and its commentary by al-Jalalayn, and I found them equal up to Surah al-Muzzammil. From Surah al-Muddaththir onwards, the commentary is additional to the Qur'an. Therefore, it is permissible to carry it without ablution."
