"Rebellious Spirits" is a book first published in New York City in 1908. In it, Gibran brings together four stories: "The Rose of Al-Hani," "The Cry of the Graves," "The Bride's Bed," and "The Infidel's Friend." These stories illustrate how these spirits rebel against the customs, traditions, laws, and regulations imposed by authorities to suppress human freedom, limit thought and action, and simultaneously impose legal privileges on one class of people at the expense of another. In this book, Gibran brings together the mad and the sane, the rebel and the obedient, the oppressed and the oppressor, the fallen and the virtuous, using a sweet musical style to depict the emotions of different classes of people, from the beggar to the rich, from the atheist to the saint.
