Professor Galal Amin says about this distinguished novel: Here is Alaa Al Aswany's new novel, "Chicago," which deserves similar success with the same degree of merit as that which "The Yacoubian Building" deserved. I was happy when I finished reading it for more than one reason. This reading confirmed to me that we do indeed have a great and talented writer, and it became clear that "The Yacoubian Building" is not a unique, unrepeatable phenomenon, but rather that it is possible to be repeated time and time again. The new novel, "Chicago," has all the advantages of the previous novel: the suspense that begins from the first page and continues to the last; the smooth and swift writing style that consistently hits the target without sluggishness or lingering; the clear and consistent characterization; the refined Arabic language without affectation or deliberate strangeness; and, above all and above all, the nobility of the meaning. In my opinion, there is no point in a novel, no matter how suspenseful or well-crafted, if its purpose is not noble. If the purpose is trivial or contemptible, it eliminates any effect that skill and cleverness might have on the reader.
