My Different Sensation

A guide for parents and caregivers to help them deal with the sensory problems children face.

Parents may notice that their children are selective eaters, or are bothered by certain types of fabrics, or are annoyed by loud noises or bright lights, but what many do not know is that behind these behaviors lies a different sensation.

I named the book "My Different Sensation" as if the child is telling their parents and society: "My sensation is different."

The book contains a detailed explanation of sensory integration disorder, the difference between a sensory seeker and a sensory avoider, and the most common difficult situations faced by children with sensory problems.

The book also discusses the difficulties the child may face if left untreated, and explains the seven sensory systems: touch, hearing, sight, taste, smell, proprioception, and the vestibular system (balance).

The book also includes a quick test for caregivers, where they answer yes or no questions to determine if the child has a problem with a particular sense, in addition to strategies that can be implemented at home.

The book also covers other topics, such as the sensory diet, strategies to reduce drooling, the relationship between sensory problems and food, tips for dealing with a picky eater, the difference between sensory and behavioral problems, and how to design a sensory room at home, among others.
