Sharjah Theatre Days

Coinciding with the launch of the 30th edition of Sharjah Theatre Days, the third edition of the book "Sharjah Theatre Days / 1984 – 2019 /" by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, was released.
The book begins with an introduction by His Highness, in which he states, "In early 1979, I was meticulously developing a plan to rekindle youth interest in cultural fields, and I resolved to give arts and literature considerable attention in the next phase. On the occasion of the play /The Company of Wonders/, which was being performed by the National Youth Theatre Troupe in Africa Hall in 1979, I told the young people present that the plan I was preparing would surprise everyone. Then I said: The time has come to stop the concrete revolution in the country and replace it with a cultural revolution."
The book holds significant documentary and cultural importance as it passionately reviews the experience of establishing Sharjah Theatre Days in its first edition from March 20 to 26, 1984, followed by the second edition from March 28 to April 4, 1985, which featured ten plays by ten theatre troupes in the country. In his book, His Highness documents the journey of the Days up to its twenty-ninth cycle, all accompanied by an engaging, detailed, and documented narrative that provides the reader with all the possibilities for development and growth that this cultural event has experienced, in terms of performances, honoring winners and pioneers of Emirati and Arab theatre artists, and the refined artistic atmosphere that permeated those beautiful days, which created local art stars and established many festival traditions, dialogue of experiences between theatrical generations, and the interventions of the theatre-loving ruler, indeed, the author who constantly and positively sponsors the theatre movement.
Sharjah Theatre Days is an annual Emirati cultural theatre event held in the Emirate of Sharjah under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi. Theatre troupes from all emirates of the country participate, and it is supervised by a higher committee, from which specialized committees branch off, including the theatre competition jury, which includes Arab and local theatrical experts. The Days host theatre artists, thinkers, and authors, in addition to leading actors (pioneers and stars) from various Arab and foreign countries, to follow the theatrical performances and participate in the accompanying applied and intellectual seminars, and open meetings and discussions, in order to provide an interactive environment that benefits Emirati theatre artists.
The first edition of the Theatre Days was launched on /March 10, 1984/ and has continued since then to this day, during which the theatrical performances presented in each cycle of the Days have shown significant progressive development and a high artistic sense enjoyed by the creators of the theatrical game.
