In the face of a village ignored by rain and politicians, the face of Kenya appears. This land, once fertile and generous, has now declined due to drought and the collusion of colonialists, traitors, and the greedy. Now, on its dusty soil, unknown heroes gather, each from a past rooted in failure, exploitation, and marginalization. What will happen when these heroes take it upon themselves to save the land that gave them so much? Did they know, as they walked toward their inevitable fate, that the journey from Elmorug to the city would only bring more devastation? And that the hoped-for salvation in the end was nothing but the very devastation they tried to escape? This is the story of post-independence Kenya, and the story of the marginalized who lost parts of themselves in the attempt to liberate it, only to realize that colonialism has more than one face.
