The Struggle for Power and Trade in the Gulf 1620-1820

This book recounts the struggles of Persian power and other local conflicts over trade in the Gulf, and concerning the affairs of the European East India Companies. Upon the death of Nader Shah in 1747, Persia was a truly dominant power, but the subsequent vacuum witnessed the beginning of the establishment of the Utub in Bahrain and Al-Qurain (Kuwait). Arab sheikhs on the Persian coast also solidified their trading centers, and powers on the Arab coast of the Gulf joined these conflicts, such as the Al Busaid in Muscat and the Al Qasimi in Julfar. This book is a resource for researchers interested in the history of ruling families on both sides of the Gulf, and a reference for researchers in the economy and trade of the Gulf during that period.
