His other well-known novels include Darkness and Dawn, The World Without End, and Rebecca's Key. Follett was born in Cardiff, England, in 1949. He earned a degree in philosophy from University College London, followed by a degree in journalism, which paved the way for him to work as an investigative reporter. This experience led to the publication of his first novel, The Big Needle, in 1974. In 1978, he published The Eye of the Needle, which propelled him to the ranks of leading British novelists. It became a bestseller upon its release, as it vividly recounted the events of the final year of World War II. In 1989, he published his novel "The Pillars of the Earth," a major literary event and the first part of the Kingsbridge Trilogy.
