A week after Kimya's death, Shams al-Din disappeared, this time for good. There are several theories regarding his disappearance. One of them tends to generalize, as it is more dramatic, suggesting that he was killed at the instigation of Ala al-Din. However, there is no evidence to support this narrative. Sultan Walad, in his poem about his father's biography, dismisses this idea. A group of historians claim that Shams al-Din returned to Tabriz, while one source mentions that Shams al-Din's death occurred in the city of Khoy on his way back to Tabriz.
