"The Overcoat" tells the story of a poor man named Akaki Akakievich, a man whose only livelihood is copying. Even if he were given another job, he wouldn't be able to complete it. He is constantly mocked by his colleagues... He lives isolated from the public... He only owns one coat, which he tries to patch up, but it seems to be of no use, so he resorts to buying a new one, which is expensive for a poor person like him. His life changes slightly... until one day his coat is stolen, and everything changes. He tries to report the nose to the police and speak to an authority figure, but it is in vain. He falls ill with a fever and dies. As for the story "The Nose," it talks about a nose that was separated from its owner's face and began to wander around St. Petersburg as an independent character. The hero of the story is Yakov Plievich, a barber, content with his life. One day, while cutting a loaf of bread, he finds a nose among the bread. Strangely, the nose is familiar to him... It belongs to the college inspector Kovalyov, whose hair he usually shaves on Wednesdays and Sundays. He becomes frightened and tries to get rid of it, pinching himself to make sure he wasn't asleep!! The two novels had a tremendous impact on intellectuals and readers in Russia due to their precise focus, profound humanity, and sympathy for the weak, oppressed, and their exposure of the class hierarchy of that period.
