The eternal return remains a mystery to many, both in general and in particular, even though it is practiced by everyone every day and constitutes the essence of religious behavior. Perhaps its mystery stems, in particular, from the way it is presented, which is tainted with much ambiguity and vagueness.
Eternal return is no longer an ancient behavior, idea, or myth. Rather, it has become a comprehensive religious system that includes the basic components of any known religion. It has its own beliefs, myths, and rituals. We see it clearly present in our behavior and lives today. We must uncover both the beautiful and the miserable awareness of it, for these two awarenesses are what make it either a source of creativity or a source of oppression and tyranny.
On the other hand, this system of eternal return became a haven for fundamentalist doctrines, which veered toward Salafism and the past when it became religiously ideological and became a coercive and authoritarian system practiced by fundamentalists in religion and politics in particular, becoming a negative system. In literature and art, great creators have exploited it in their works as a profound and significant myth. In science, its echoes have appeared in the theories of the mirror universe, holistic scientists, and in interpretations of the Big Bang theory.
Very few books have discussed the eternal return, and most emphasize one aspect of it. However, this book attempts to examine the entire system of eternal return, including its beliefs, myths, and rituals. It also explores it in poetry, fiction, photography, and particularly in cosmology and physics. The book attempts to answer the following question: Is eternal return a beautiful, misleading idea? Or is it a religious idea cloaked in philosophy and science?
