The Assyrian civilization is one of the greatest civilizations in ancient history, and we can almost say that it is the greatest when talking about an imperial civilization.

The book "Assyrian Civilization" by the thinker and historian Khazal Al-Majidi has been published in a new two-volume edition by Dar Al-Rafidain as part of the Distinguished Cultures and Civilizations series.

Despite the greatness of the Assyrian civilization, under the exaggeration of the argument of its vast expansion and excessive cruelty, it was subjected to the arrows of criticism and the pickaxes of destruction, which distorted it, and then it was neglected and marginalized, after it was destroyed by suspicious alliances. This neglect and oblivion, in the past and the present, were intentional, and they tried to diminish its achievements and greatness, which was once above everyone.

The book argues that this civilization was subjected to a hideous regional conspiracy that brought it down, then buried it, killed its people, or displaced, captured, and displaced them, buried its cities, and plundered its cultural achievements, transferring them to the countries and peoples conspiring against it at the time. This conspiracy exploited the widespread negative propaganda against the tyranny and arrogance of the Assyrian Empire to cover up the crime of genocide and plunder it perpetrated against itself.

When Harry Saggs described the Assyrian civilization as "great to the max," he was clearly referring to a great pinnacle of the civilizations of Mesopotamia, the ancient Near East, and the entire ancient world. It was a civilization that combined the essence of its era, which extended for nearly two thousand continuous years. However, in the last three centuries of its history (the Neo-Assyrian era), it was able to soar on the wings of Assyria to the heights and fly over countries and civilizations, embodying, for the first time in the history of empires, a unique and sophisticated administrative model of empires that every empire after it imitated.

The first part of the book, "The Assyrian Civilization," comprises ten chapters, beginning with an introductory chapter on Assyria, Assyriology, and Assyriologists. The remaining chapters address the elements of Assyrian civilization: geography, history, politics, law, military, civil, economic, language, writing, literature, thought, and social elements. The second part completes the discussion of the elements of Assyrian civilization.
