Discourse on Method

Author: René Descartes

It is well known that the book "Discourse on Method" by the French philosopher René Descartes is one of the pillars of modern Western philosophy, which has had an unparalleled influence on global philosophical thought. Dar Al-Rafidain found no better option than the veteran translation carried out by Professor Mahmoud Mohamed El-Khodairy, may God have mercy on him, who was bold, adventurous, and incredibly creative in translating this philosophical text into the Arabic language with unparalleled skill, integrity, and love for wisdom and philosophical discourse. This translation was published in Egypt in 1930 and was, at the time, overwhelmingly well-received by philosophy enthusiasts in Arab countries. It was republished repeatedly, in 1968, with the editing and revision of Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Helmy, and subsequently in 2003. Another new Arabic translation of the text appeared in 2008 under the title "Modern Discourse," translated, commented on, and explained by Dr. Omar Al-Sharni. Due to the importance of René Descartes' philosophy as a philosopher, on one hand, and the pioneering solidity of Al-Khodairy's first translation of this ancient philosophical text, on the other, we present this precious philosophical work to the Arab reader.
