Thought Leaders - Taha Hussein

Taha Hussein believed that ancient Greek civilization, with its great thinkers and artists, was the most important (perhaps even the sole) source of modern European civilization, from whose achievements all humanity has benefited. However, the process was not easy, as European thought underwent continuous and long stages of development throughout history. From pure Greek primitivism, poetry emerged as a necessity for humans to express their emotions and feelings and to recount some of their glories in imaginary forms, giving rise to the great poetic epics by Homer and other great Greek poets. Then, humans began to sense their need to perceive, understand, and interpret the phenomena and events around them, so they exerted organized mental effort, criticizing every fixed notion in the light of reason. This led to philosophy, whose topics also evolved and whose studies diversified at the hands of great masters such as Socrates and Plato, ensuring that the journey of thought would continue as long as day and night succeed each other.
