Lucy's attic room was pitch black. Had she been awake, she would have heard a strange sound, the loud song of a lark in the darkness above the house. Had she been standing in the garden looking up at the black sky through her binoculars, she would have seen the lark's gleaming body fluttering high in the air, the first rays of sunlight gazing down upon the bird from beyond the world.

This is where Lucy's story with the Iron Lady began, a woman she chose to save the world from the harm inflicted upon it by adults. Ted Hughes wrote this novel in 1993, twenty-five years after the publication of its first part – Iron Man – and dedicated it to his two children, Frieda and Nicholas, even though they were in their thirties when he wrote it.
The main themes of the novel are no different from its predecessor; it also touches on environmental pollution and the struggle between humanity and nature. This time, the heroine and savior is the girl Lucy, and her twin sister, the Iron Woman, who, with the help of Iron Man and his friend Hogarth, bring humanity back to its senses.
