During my first reading, the novel captivated me with two strengths it possessed masterfully: the first is the poetic language celebrating all the beauties of nature. Date palms, coffee, trees, floods, rain, sun, incense, and communal dance rituals are not mere motifs but influential characters in the text's dynamism, alongside noble poverty and social solidarity. The second strength is the element of suspense that makes you possessed by the novel's characters, accompanying their movements, and feeling their anxieties within an environment closed in on itself within a self-contained society.
