Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations offers an extraordinary series of spiritual reflections that challenge the philosophy of life’s behaviors, in addition to practices that showed the emperor's struggle to understand himself and accept the universe. In many ways, Marcus Aurelius's Meditations embodies the philosophical wisdom of the Greco-Roman world. Aurelius wrote this pamphlet as his personal journal while fighting one of the wars on the borders of the Roman Empire, and today this pamphlet is known as "Meditations." Although Marcus Aurelius's Meditations was written between 170 and 180 CE, it has resonated with contemporary readers due to its remarkable resemblance to self-help books. Aurelius wrote his book as a series of personal notes in the last decade of his reign over the Roman Empire, and there was no intention of publishing "Meditations."
