The peasant and the teenager

In a remote village inhabited only by a solitary farmer, two fundamentally different worlds meet: the simple world of the farmers and the dreamy world of the teenager. They are brought together by chance under the roof of a single reality that encompasses two worlds that only meet by chance.

It is not a novel with a traditional plot, with events gradually progressing towards the climax of the conflict. Rather, it is a fluid literary work, more like a scene taken from everyday life in its natural state.

In Andrei Dmitriev’s novel, the reader finds himself at the heart of a tranquil rural world, devoid of the disturbances of the garden, with characters living in a state of prolonged waiting… waiting for something undefined, as if immersed in an extended dream.

And from the threads of this dream, the great questions of Russian literature loom: Who am I? What is my role in this world? What should I do? And despite the apparent vast gulf between the worlds of the peasant and the adolescent, the end of the novel reveals a hidden similarity, and more than appearances suggest, it manifests itself on a deep psychological level.
