In 642 AH, Shams al-Din Tabrizi traveled to the lands of the Romans in search of one of the righteous saints of God, whose company he had been given in a dream. In Konya, Shams al-Din met Jalal al-Din Rumi. This meeting was a turning point in the lives of both men; each found in the other their longed-for goal. Their relationship strengthened, and they spent periods together between 642 AH and 645 AH. During this time of companionship, they shared conversations, discussions, and stories related to the path of Sufism, interpreting its stations and states, and explaining its etiquette and customs. Each of them crystallized his spiritual experience through these conversations.
