Isagoge is the title of the book authored by Porphyry of Tyre to serve as an introduction to logic. Porphyry of Tyre was a philosopher born in the city of Tyre and is considered one of the most prominent representatives of Neoplatonism, a name given to a philosophical mystical school based on the teachings of the great Greek philosopher Plato. One of its most important early contributors was the Greek philosopher Plotinus. Porphyry of Tyre was a student of Plotinus, and all the information we have about Plotinus came through Porphyry's own writings. The book Isagoge is Porphyry's most important work, serving as an introduction to Aristotle's categories in logic. The book was translated from Greek to Syriac in the 6th century AD, and then from Syriac to Arabic by Abu Uthman al-Dimashqi.
