This book is the fruit of al-Tawhidi's studies, observations, and listenings. In the introduction to his book, al-Tawhidi mentioned the main sources he relied on in compiling this massive work. In addition to al-Jahiz's works, these include well-known foundational books such as "Al-Nawadir" by Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ziyad al-A'rabi, "Al-Kamil" by al-Mubarrad, "Uyun al-Akhbar" by Ibn Qutaybah, "Majalisat Tha'lab," "Al-Manzoum wal-Manthour" by Ibn Abi Tahir, "Al-Awraq" by al-Suli, "Al-Wuzara" by Ibn Abdus, and "Al-Hayawanat" by Qudamah, in addition to the Quran and Sunnah. There is no doubt that al-Tawhidi proceeded to select and record what he did, driven by his taste, inclination, temperament, traditional religious culture, and his philosophical school of thought within Mu'tazilism.
