The Masterpiece of the Patient in the Virtues of the Sick and Afflicted

Oh sick one...
When you lie in bed sick and look around you and see others having fun and cursing, then you might ask yourself: Why did God confine me to a sick bed while you see others free? And why did He prevent me from doing good deeds while others strive to obey Him?!!
When you have a fever and are in severe pain, you may ask yourself: Why did God create pain and illness? What is the wisdom behind diseases and afflictions? Why do believers get sick even though they are obedient to God? Why are good people afflicted even though they are doers of good deeds?!!
When hours are spent visiting doctors, days pass while you are sick in bed, and you are confined within the walls of the hospital, then you ask yourself: What is the wisdom behind my being here? And why did God Almighty choose me to be afflicted with this calamity and not others?!!!
When you spend your money on doctor visits, buying medicine, and hospital expenses, ask yourself: Is there a reward for someone who spends his money on treating an illness?
When the days of illness become longer, the pain increases, and the doctors are at a loss, you ask yourself: How can I be among the patient? How can I hold on to hope despite the intense pain? What reward awaits me from Allah in the afterlife?
The answers to these questions and others are in the book “Tuhfat al-Sabireen fi Fadhail al-Murdih wa al-Aseebin.” May God grant us and you well-being in this world and the hereafter, and make us among the patient and grateful.
