Its hero is a young American lieutenant named "Frederick Henry" who works in the field of ambulance and rescue for a field hospital during the war. The main message of the novel is a loud cry against war, while the main dramatic event in the novel revolves around a romantic love affair that develops between a beautiful Italian nurse named "Carterine Barclay" and Lieutenant Frederick, who was seriously injured in one of the battles, while performing his job transporting wounded soldiers. Despite this injury, which nearly cost him his life, he considered it a precious opportunity for him, as it brought him together with the beautiful nurse, Catherine, who took special care of him, making him madly in love with her. However, this unexpected love did not make him forget the war and its woes. He kept asking himself: Where is humanity? He saw the horrors and ugliness of war every day during his work, and the question kept haunting him until he became certain that war was absolutely brutal and inhumane.
