In the novel, the reader will notice the degree of similarity in some events and customs between ancient Russia and our Arab society, and will be amazed by the traditions we share with an Eastern background and a long history of authenticity and pride. The reader can also get to know Russia during the era of slaves and imperial rule, as events with a social shade unfold, narrating stories with their backgrounds over many years. The social life described by Akaskov in the first part reminds us of Mahfouz's great trilogy: the interweaving of the heroes' tales, the unequal love stories, life in the house of the cruel master of the house whose word carries weight only, and the tricks of the women of the house to escape some of their rights, or sometimes out of greed. Simply put, we are faced with a very important social portrait of Russia during that era, set against a historical and political backdrop, in an enjoyable, creative narrative format.
