Jalal lived with his Jewish mother and grandfather in Paris, where his grandfather was a symbol of the Egyptian who belongs to, loves his country, and is tolerant of religions. Jalal lived all his life experiences in the shadow of this grandfather. The novel also documented the situations and events that happened to him in the land of diaspora, in addition to the Jews' longing for Egypt.
