In this book, the great director Khairy Beshara shares with us the essence of his life's observations, the knowledge and feelings he has amassed over the years, and how he used them to create works of art that immortalize how he thought, dreamed, imagined, experienced, and saw people and the world around him. With the spirit of an adventurer who loves life, Khairy Beshara takes us on a journey full of challenge, willpower, and refusal to surrender. This journey spans more than seventy years, marked by many changes in the history of Egyptian cinema, as politics clashed with art, and the private and the public intermingled, reflecting on his personality and history. He reveals how his trip to Poland changed his life during a period when the world was swept by political and social changes. He returned from there in the late 1960s with a tremendous cinematic experience... and also... "Monika," his wife and travel companion. He recounts with honesty and candor how he was able to make films unlike any that preceded them, films that delve into reality and attempt to understand it, revealing the state of anticipation he encountered with his first film, and how he was able to overcome all the obstacles he faced. He recounts the producers' shock at his desire to experiment and his different choices of actors, which transformed Sherihan, the star of the Fawazeer (complex games), into a miserable Upper Egyptian woman in "Al-Tawq wa Al-Eswara," and the elegant Faten Hamama into a popular seamstress from Shubra in "Yom Mor Wa Yom Helw." With captivating simplicity, he reveals the secret behind the "popular hero" films in "Kaboria" and "Ice Cream in Gleem," in which he achieved the difficult equation of making a commercial film that achieved high revenues without compromising on artistic excellence, making him the only director in the 1990s to have his films distributed under his own name. He also examines the story of his discovery of his illness and how he was able to overcome it through his love for a life worth living.
