With her signature style, characterized by her acute awareness of the paradoxes of everyday life, Nawara Negm chose for this debut novel a satirical fantasy setting, through which she addresses events that take place over the course of a single day inside one of the Internet Investigation Department's headquarters in Cairo, revealing extremely current facts. She weaves this reality—with her usual lightheartedness—with great skill through a tight structure whose episodes lead one after the other to unexpected discoveries. The novel's heroines, however, come from diverse social backgrounds. They are driven to report violations of their online accounts, fearing the potential crimes these violations might lead to. One of these occurs while they are inside the building, when a passerby outside is killed by an old sheikh's bullets.

When Nawara, through one of her characters, reveals the crime of human trafficking within the dark web, lurking deep within the internet, some might think it's a figment of the imagination. Unfortunately, however, it's a tragic reality that represents part of the story of a contemporary society in which the author condenses many images of contradiction with modernity—a society we may not know, but which continually asserts its existence and expands into the city's arteries.
