On the cover of the novel we read: “As I was passing through Ramses Street, a huge monkey appeared next to me, a real monkey with thick hair, a distinctively curved body, and a red rear end. A monkey like the ones you see in movies. I hadn’t seen a real monkey in more than twenty years, when I last visited the zoo before they closed it and set the animals free on the streets. The monkey jumped high to touch my shoulder with its hairy hand, alerting me to its presence. It didn’t need to do that, as its presence was noticeable enough. However, it seemed to be noticeable to me alone, not to the passersby nearby. I had read news that morning about the escape of a number of monkeys from a veterinary college. I laughed and didn’t care. All the news now made me laugh without me caring.” The stories of this collection take place in a city that resembles a jungle, in a harsh world full of animals, monkeys jumping in its streets, cats invading its streets, lions and dogs here and there, and the narrator is lost in the midst of all this, he can hardly distinguish reality from a dream, or truth from a nightmare, everything has become intertwined and confusing, and in the midst of all this noise, the writer closes the door of his room and grabs his pen to narrate and describe what is happening around him in the hope of understanding this world and comprehending its changes
