I found myself not writing a sick person's diary; rather, I write about events and feelings, what I experienced and what I learned, an autobiography for me and my generation as well. Without realizing it, my book crossed from the private to the public, and thus I moved between scientific explanation and news of political developments, from refuting myths about the so-called "alternative medicine" to following the death of Queen Elizabeth, contemplating death and life. If I am saved by some miracle, I will seek that light that increased my experience and appreciation for it during my days of illness, and I will give what I can in gratitude for being fortunate to have a luminous wife, a luminous father and mother, and many friends whose light reassures me of the truth of goodness in this world. If fate grants me the time the doctors have decreed, I hope that what comes after my death will be light and tranquility, and that some light will pass through this book to whoever reads it. - Mohamed Aboul Gheit
