Who killed Maryam Al-Safi?

Author's name: Muhammad Al-Mansi Qandil

In 1970, while Mohamed El-Mansi Qandil was a student at Mansoura Faculty of Medicine, he won first prize in the story club for his story "The Song of the Empty Morgue," before including it in his first book, "Who Killed Maryam El-Safi?" which won the State Encouragement Award in 1988. This book includes 14 stories, most of which were written between the late 1960s and the mid-1970s, all linked by the author's distinctive, sweet narrative style that began with his first book. Through these stories, El-Mansi Qandil takes us from the journey of the teacher Mansi, the textile merchant, to the center of El-Mahalla, to the sudden return of the Mamluks from the ground, and from the shock of an officer upon arriving at the homeland of a martyr, all the way to the story of a desperate investigator searching for a clue to a mysterious crime, only to find himself in a final confrontation with Maryam El-Safi.
