The novel (The Fate of Grim Rooms) is an attempt to search for a more beautiful world, through the experience of the narrator Abdel Aziz in Egyptian prisons, in the sixties, across several houses the narrator lived in, starting from his unnamed village, then in several cities starting from Mit Ghamr in the Egyptian Delta, ending in Berlin, passing through Tanta, Alexandria and Cairo. With the skill of a talented writer and the sensitivity of a novelist who combined authenticity and modernity in his composition, he was able to establish an aesthetic contrast between several forms of imprisonment and oppression: the prison of the outside and the inside, the prison of tradition and modernity, the prison of the soul and the body, the prison of the small, ugly buildings in the slums and countryside and the prison of the giant skyscrapers in the capitalist cities in the West. One of the most important works of prison literature in the Arab world, critics said about it that it (surprised the literary community) and Edward Al-Kharrat described it as (a masterpiece) for its departure from the scope and specifications of the traditional novel
