This short novel combines two of the most marvelous stories written by the Russian author Nikolai Gogol: The Nose and The Overcoat. In the story The Nose, we follow a sarcastic and bizarre adventure about an official who loses his nose only to find it living a life independent of him, in a scathing critique of bureaucracy and Tsarist society. As for the story The Overcoat, we experience the tragedy of the poor clerk Akaky Akakievich, who dreams of a new overcoat to save him from the cold of St. Petersburg, but faces the harshness of poverty and the indifference of society. Through dark humor and imagination blended with realism, Gogol reveals the absurdity of life, the suffering of the simple human, and lays the foundations of modern Russian literature that later influenced giants like Dostoevsky and Tolstoy.
