The book (Al-Bidaya wa Al-Nihaya) is one of the most prominent books that covered Islamic history, and among the most famous historical works. In it, Ibn Kathir presented the bright image of Islam, which made his book one of the valuable historical records. It received widespread acclaim and immense admiration from scholars and specialists, past and present, becoming a primary source for researchers.

In writing the history of the Umayyads, Ibn Kathir relied on in-depth reading of hundreds of sources and narrations, and understanding their value. Based on this, he wrote the history of the Umayyads with an objective perspective that seeks justice and fairness, favors thought and independent reasoning, and rejects imitation and stagnation.

Throughout this process, he was characterized by strong observation, frank criticism, courage in upholding the truth, meticulousness and honesty in transmission, and an exceptional ability to link events in a distinct and smooth manner. He would express his opinions on them after examination and verification.
