In this work, its author, the scholar of Kairouan, Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Abi Bakr Muhammad al-Qabisi (d. 403 AH), compiled what had an uninterrupted chain of transmission from the Hadith of Imam Malik ibn Anas in his Muwatta, focusing on the Marfu' (attributable to the Prophet, peace be upon him) hadiths that were free from defects.
He collected these hadiths for students of his time who wished to memorize them, relying on a single narration of the Muwatta, namely the narration of Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim al-Atiqi, a student of Imam Malik ibn Anas. In his reliance on this narration, he followed a unique and innovative methodology for demonstrating the differences between the versions that reached him. Thus, his work served as an example of comparing versions and correcting ancient manuscripts.
A concise hadith section was appended to the book, listing the narrators of the Muwatta from Imam Malik ibn Anas, extracted by the hadith scholar of Damascus, Abu Muhammad Hibat Allah ibn Ahmad ibn al-Akfani (d. 524 AH), along with proper treatment.
