Majma' al-Bahrain al-'Adhbain: Merely the Hadiths of the Two Sahihs
Author: Sheikh Burhan al-Din Abu Ishaq al-Ja'bari
This book (Majma' al-Bahrain al-'Adhbain) by Abu Ishaq al-Ja'bari, who died in the year (732 AH), compiles the hadiths from the two Sahihs of Imams Bukhari and Muslim. His methodology in combining them was as follows:
- Deleting the chains of narration (asanid) and only mentioning the Companion, and sometimes the Successor (Tabi'i).
- Deleting repeated hadiths and mentioning them in a single place according to their topic.
- Symbolizing agreed-upon hadiths with the letter: (ق), hadiths exclusively narrated by Bukhari with the letter: (خ), and hadiths exclusively narrated by Muslim with the letter: (م).
- Arranging the hadiths alphabetically for the most part to facilitate memorization.
Dr. Riyad Mansi al-Issa undertook the verification of this treatise according to accredited verification principles, paying attention to regulating its wording, explaining its unfamiliar terms, and correcting errors made by the author or transcriber in attributing hadiths or mentioning the Companion's name.
