The question of writing is the subject addressed by the writer Hanan Jihad Farhat in her novel "Tree, Heart, Scissors," and because there is no writing outside of life, experience may be the necessary condition for creativity. But does everything that results from experience necessarily constitute a creative text?
These questions and other concerns about writing are directly raised by the novel through tracing the life of its main fictional character and narrator, and her relationship with the world around her. It is a world that begins with the questions of a child who drew a world of her own in her imagination, and when she grew up, she succeeded in realizing it. Her enrollment in a creative writing workshop played the most prominent role in refining her talent, and in the workshop, she began to draw her characters with words, giving them all the characteristics that came to her mind, some good and some bad. She also began to draw their relationships with their families, siblings, and neighbors, and when she finished, she asked herself: "Who is this? Where did she come from?"
The novel discusses the essence of creative writing: where does the writer get their idea from? How do they draw their characters? How do they create the events of their story? How do they weave their words in a way that aligns with the complexities of the human soul and the world around them? And other throes of writing. In this sense, the writer Hanan Jihad Farhat presented in "Tree, Heart, Scissors" an objective approach to the subject of writing, incorporating a realistic equation in which writing tools are presented as envisioned by the conscience and imagined by the creative artistic sense of the woman/writer who tries to express her feminine being on paper and in life in general.
