The novel takes us on a journey with Sarah, who searches for her self and identity in a world fragmenting to the rhythm of exile and memories. Sarah follows a reality that fades the closer she gets to it, haunted by restless questions, and haunted by whispers from a world she may have invented to survive or to remember what is impossible to remember.

"Shadows in Exile" is not just a novel about war. It is a poetic, philosophical, and tense novel that questions truth, identity, and homeland, and writes about Palestine in our nightmares, dreams, and deep fragility.

From the atmosphere of the novel we read:

"Sarah... I know. I knew from the beginning that you are characters on paper. You, Samar, your parents... you are all children of this text. It is natural that you do not know what has not been written for you."

He slowly raised his eyes to her and continued:

"But you alone were different. I don't know how, but you held the pen. You dictated events to me with such confidence. You acted with a freedom that I had seized and not given you."

She looked at him for a long time, then whispered as if she was talking to herself:

"I once believed you. I believed I was your heroine, that you were the only writer. And perhaps that's why I could have forgiven my parents for their ignorance. You never wrote for them. But... Dr. Adel and his flowery scientific talk came along and spoiled my imagination before he too fell into the vortex of delusion. But if you didn't write about Dr. Adel, then who did? My mind? My imagination? And is it right for me to create something beyond your control? To write characters you don't know about and who don't appear in your novel?"
