The novel, titled "Pet Sematary" and subtitled "Dead Is Sometimes Better," is written by Stephen King and translated by Oleg Okki. The house looks and feels ready-made for Dr. Louis Creed. Spacious, old, comfortable. A place for a family to settle down; for children to grow up, play, and explore. The gentle hills and meadows of Maine seem so far removed from the dangers of the polluted city. The only problem is those large trucks roaming the road, their menacing presence disturbing. Behind the house, a carefully mowed and cleared path leads through the woods to a place where generations of local children have walked in a procession of typical young innocence, taking their departed pets with them for burial. A sad place, perhaps, but a safe place. A safe place, to be sure. Not a place that seeps into your dreams, wakes you up, and you find yourself sweating with fear and wariness of evil. Novelist Stephen King introduced his novel “Pet Sematary” with an introduction that reads: “When I’m asked (and I’m often asked) which book I consider the scariest I’ve ever written, the answer comes easily and without hesitation: ‘Pet Sematary.’ It may not be the book that scares readers the most—based on the mail I get, I’m guessing The Shining is probably the book that does that—but the fear bone, like the laugh bone (or the elbow bone), exists in different places for different people.
