As usual, Arnaldur Indriðason plunges us into the world of mysterious crime, through a complex criminal plot; he skillfully depicts the movements of its characters using attractive personalities; demonstrating his ability to delve into the world of crime and criminal investigation. A few days before Christmas, Guðlaugur, a hotel doorman in Reykjavik who sometimes plays Santa, is found dressed as Santa Claus; stabbed to death in his wretched little room in the hotel where he works, and in a shameful position. It quickly becomes clear that both staff and guests have something to hide, but the most mysterious secrets are buried with the victim... As Inspector Erlendur tries to find answers and searches for clues, he discovers that the hotel's calm appearance hides a great deal of mystery. It is an enjoyable novel that puts the reader under an exciting deception, making them search with the inspector for the enigma behind the rapid and intertwined events on their way to discovering the secret of the crime. It is worth noting that this book won the Golden Dagger Award.
